The poor have little, beggars none, the rich too much, enough not one. Experience is a dear teacher, but fools will learn at no other. The magistrate should obey the laws, the people should obey the magistrate. Those who love deeply never grow old; they may die of old age, but they die young. The doors of wisdom are never shut. The Constitution only guarantees the American people the right to pursue happiness. You have to catch it yourself. The ancients tell us what is best; but we must learn of the moderns what is fittest. That it is better that 100 guilty persons should escape than that one innocent person should suffer, is a maxim that has been long and generally approved. Teach your child to hold his tongue, he'll learn fast enough to speak. One today is worth two tomorrows. |
