Brains first and then Hard Work. Nothing changes more constantly than the past; for the past that influences our lives does not consist of what happened, but of what men believe happened. The fruits of all our labors have left us as we started. To grow without is not to grow within. Those who are lifting the world upward and onward are those who encourage more than criticize. Some people think only intellect counts: knowing how to solve problems, knowing how to get by, knowing how to identify an advantage and seize it. But the functions of intellect are insufficient without courage, love, friendship, compassion and empathy. There are no speed limits on the road to excellence. The essence of true friendship is to make allowances for another's little lapses. Wisdom is knowing what to do next; virtue is doing it. Seeing death as the end of life is like seeing the horizon as the end of the ocean. The hardest thing to learn in life is which bridge to cross and which to burn. |
