What passes for optimism is most often the effect of an intellectual error. So often when we say "I love you" we say it with a huge "I" and a small "You." The best advisors ... give us, out of themselves, the ardent spirit and desire to act right, and leave us then, even through many blunders, to find out what our own form of right action is Love is not blind -- it sees more, not less. But because it sees more, it is willing to see less. Failure is not an option. Diplomacy is a disguised war, in which states seek to gain by barter and intrigue, by the cleverness of arts, the objectives which they would have to gain more clumsily by means of war. To despise riches, may, indeed, be philosophic, but to dispense them worthily, must surely be more beneficial to mankind. Love means exposing yourself to the pain of being hurt, deeply hurt by someone you trust. He who wants a rose must respect the thorn. Treat your friends as you do your pictures, and place them in their best light. |
