It is our choices ... that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities. Why be afraid of what people will say? Those who care about you will say, "Good luck!" and those who care only about themselves will never say anything worth listening to anyway. The optimist thinks this is the best of all worlds. The pessimist fears it is true. Character contributes to beauty. It fortifies a woman as her youth fades. A mode of conduct, a standard of courage, discipline, fortitude, and integrity can do a great deal to make a woman beautiful. We can learn from experience if we are ready to adapt that experience to changed conditions. Fate chooses our relatives, we choose our friends. Humour is that which most efficiently recognizes that we are living in an imperfect world, with imperfect arguments and things that are insane, illogical, and irrational. And the only way we can live with that fact is to laugh. A hug is the perfect gift; one size fits all, and nobody minds if you exchange it. You may live a long while with some people and be on friendly terms with them and never speak openly with them from your soul. For every love there is a heart somewhere to receive it. |
