He lives in you. He lives in me. He watches over everything we see. Into the water. Into the truth. In your reflection. He lives in you. Love yourself, for if you don't, how can you expect anybody else to love you? Can you imagine what that's like? To have to like sit around and figure out what someone else is like thinking? The tough thing about following your heart is that people forget to metion that sometimes the heart takes you to places you shouldn't be. Places that are scary as they are exciting and as dangerous as they are alluring. Sometimes your heart cannot take you to places that lead to happy endings. That's not even the difficult part; the difficult part is when you follow your heart, you leave normal; you go into the unknown and once you do you can never go back. Love is a gift. You can't buy it, you can't find it, someone has to give it to you. Learn to be receptive of that gift. I laughed and punched him gently and collected my stuff. Then I went home to continue my life, which had changed a little, as lives do every day, inching by microspecks forward toward whatever suprises are coming next. Real love, I've learned, is a very, very strong form of forgiveness. I don't think people yearn for love because they hate staying home alone on Saturday night or because they dread going into restaurants alone. People want love because they want their taped-together glasses or the extra pounds to be forgiven. They want someone to look past the surface stuff like bad-hair days, a too-loud laugh or potato chips crunching in their living room couch when anyone sits down. It's what we all wanted when we were children---to be loved and accepted exactly as we were then, not when we got taller or thinner or prettier...and we still want it... but we aren't going to get it from other people until we can get it from ourselves. Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world. When twilight drops her curtain down and pins it with a star, remember that you have a friend though she may wander far. |
