A good character carries with it the highest power of causing a thing to be believed. If happiness is activity in accordance with excellence, it is reasonable that it should be in accordance with the highest excellence. The one exclusive sign of thorough knowledge is the power of teaching. The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet. The soul can not think without a picture. The unfortunate need people who will be kind to them; the prosperous need people to be kind to. The virtue of justice consists in moderation, as regulated by wisdom. |
