Successful people are very lucky. Just ask any failure. Forget your enemies. It's your friends you frustrate that cause all the problems. One problem with gazing too frequently into the past is that we may turn around to find the future has run out on us. In general we are least aware of what our minds do best. Hatred is toxic waste in the river of life. Natives who beat drums to drive off evil spirits are objects of scorn to smart Americans who blow horns to break up traffic jams. Most of us would like to be smarter than we are, stronger than we are, richer than we are, but we don't feel all that comfortable with people who are. It is by will alone that I set my mind in motion. Nothing is more useful than silence. The defining function of the artist is to cherish consciousness. |
