Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning. Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life has not. In some schools they have abolished failing grades; they'll give you as many chances as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life. It seduces smart people into thinking they can't lose. You've got to give great tools to small teams. Pick good people, use small teams, give them excellent tools...so that they are very productive in terms of what they are doing. Make it very clear what they can do to change the spec. Make them feel like they are very much in control of it. Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you find yourself. |
