Crude classifications and false generalizations are the curse of organized life. Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself. Life is no brief candle to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got a hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it onto future generations. The English have no respect for their language, and will not teach their children to speak it. There are two tragedies in life. One is to lose your heart's desire. The other is to gain it. There is only one religion, though there are a hundred versions of it. A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable but more useful than a life spent doing nothing. A fool's brain digests philosophy into folly, science into superstition, and art into pedantry. Hence University education. Life would be tolerable but for its amusements. When a thing is funny, search it for a hidden truth. |
