To act is to be committed, and to be committed is to be in danger. The future is like heaven - everyone exalts it, but no one wants to go there now. Not many people have ever died of love. But multitudes have perished, and are perishing every hour--and in the oddest places!--for the lack of it. Beyond talent lie all the usual words: discipline, love, luck -- but, most of all, endurance. Know from whence you came. If you know whence you came, there are absolutely no limitations to where you can go. The purpose of art is to lay bare the questions which have been hidden by the answers. Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced. Money, it turned out, was exactly like sex, you thought of nothing else if you didn't have it and thought of other things if you did. The sea rises, the light fails, lovers cling to each other, and children cling to us. The moment we cease to hold each other, the moment we break faith with one another, the sea engulfs us and the light goes out. Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them. |
